 Spiral Path Farm has been a Certified Organic farm for 14 years. Put in place by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the USDA Organic Certification has established national standards that food labeled "organic" must meet, whether it is grown in the United States or imported from other countries. The USDA seal assures you that the food was produced using the highest organic production and handling standards in the world.
Spiral Path Farm Packing House is food safety certified, with inspections by AIB International. Our rating is SUPERIOR, the highest rating available from AIB.
In addition, we are members of the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA) and Pennsylvania Certified Organic (PCO). In order to be certified as an organic farm, we must follow stringent procedures to keep our farm operations free of harmful chemicals. Click here to view our certificates.
All organic farmland must be free of prohibited materials, such as chemical herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers, for at least three years prior to planting and harvest. Instead of chemicals, we utilize a variety of organic farming methods to build up the soil naturally, which helps reduce crop loss to insects or disease.
Organic farming methods include everything from cover cropping, crop rotation and planting timing to composting, mechanical weed control, use of mulches, and natural biological pest control.
As a certified organic farm, we are inspected annually by an independent field inspector. The inspector visits our farm to inspect the fields and review our records, which document greenhouse plantings, seed purchases, harvest records, pest management, inputs, tillage and crop rotations for the farm.
